College DUI Lawyer in Orlando
Take Action to Protect Your Rights and Your Future
If your child has been arrested for drinking and driving in Orlando, it
is of the greatest importance that you take action now by hiring a proven
Orlando DUI attorney who can fight the charges and help to prevent the serious consequences
which could follow in the wake of a conviction. Depending on the policies
and student code of conduct at your child's college or university,
a guilty verdict or plea could result in loss of a scholarship, suspension
or even expulsion. Even if it does not result in academic consequences,
a criminal record could bar your child from eligibility for professional
licensure, and could make it difficult or even impossible to find suitable
employment.
Don't let a youthful indiscretion ruin everything you and your child
have worked so hard to achieve! Contact us at Parks & Braxton, PA,
where our team of Orlando DUI attorneys has over 50 years of combined
experience and a successful track record that includes thousands of cases.
We are frequently invited to lecture other lawyers on the subject of DUI
defense, and have even been featured on national news television to comment
on the topic. This may be a stressful experience for you and your family,
but we are ready to help you.
College DUI Penalties in Florida
The sentence which could result in the event of a conviction depends on
whether your child is older or younger than the legal drinking age. If
over 21 years old, your child is at risk of receiving the full
DUI penalties which are imposed on other adults. Underage drivers are subject to tighter
restrictions, but are not liable to be sentenced to all the same penalties.
Whereas an adult DUI offender can be sent to jail for up to six months,
required to perform 50 hours of community service and fined $1,000 for
a first conviction, the primary legal penalty imposed on a minor is an
administrative driver's license suspension. The bar is far lower for
determining when an underage driver is under the influence of alcohol,
with a blood alcohol concentration of .02 as opposed to .08 for adults,
and a violation of this limit is punishable by a suspension lasting six
months. This is in addition to probable insurance rate increases and any
academic penalties imposed by the educational institution.
